Beyoncé (born September 4, 1981) is an American singer and actress. She was born in Houston, Texas to Mathew Knowles, an Xerox sales manager and Celestine Ann "Tina" Beyince, a salon owner. Beyoncé was enrolled in dance classes while attending St. Mary's Elementary School in Fredericksburg, Texas. Darlette Johnson discovered her singing talents when Beyoncé began humming a song and finished it while proving she was capable of hitting high notes. Her interest in music continued after she won a school talent show when she was seven by singing John Lennon's "Imagine" to beat teenage students.
She was childhood friends with Kelly Rowland. They met LaTavia Robinson when Beyoncé was eight while in an audition and the three were placed with three other girls at Girl's Tyme. The six lost following their performance on Star Search. Beyoncé would later say the song the group sung while performing was not good.
She married Jay-Z in April 2008. In September 2011, after a performance, Beyoncé confirmed her pregnancy with their first child. On January 7, 2012, she gave birth to their daughter Blue Ivy Carter. Beyonce attended the wedding ceremony of her sister Solange to Alan Ferguson in November 2014 along with her daughter and husband.
